TrailMed Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT)

£22.50

Life-Saving Haemorrhage Control | One-Handed Deployment

Stop life-threatening bleeding in seconds.

The TrailMed Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) is the gold standard for arterial haemorrhage control. Compact, lightweight, and designed for genuine one-handed operation, this technology is trusted by military personnel and emergency services worldwide. Whether you are a high-mileage cyclist, a solo hiker in remote terrain, or a tactical professional, the CAT is a non-negotiable addition to your trauma kit.

Why the TrailMed CAT? Our design focuses on "Single Protocol" application. By simplifying the routing buckle and reinforcing the windlass, it reduces the complexity of self-application during high-stress situations or when dealing with a traumatic limb injury.

Key Features & Improvements

  • Single Routing Buckle: Decreases blood loss through more effective slack removal and fewer windlass turns.

  • Reinforced Windlass Rod: Increased diameter and aggressive ribbing provide a superior grip, even when hands are wet or cold.

  • Stabilisation Plate: A bevelled contact bar reduces skin pinching and improves comfort during application.

  • Tactical Time Stamp: A dedicated area to record the time of application—critical information for responding NHS paramedics and A&E teams.

  • True Circumferential Pressure: Utilises a free-moving internal band to ensure even pressure is applied around the entire limb.

Why we love it:

"We’ve seen a massive rise in cyclists and trail runners carrying these. In a remote 'lone worker' or solo athlete scenario, the ability to stop a major bleed on your own is the difference between life and death. At just £22.50, it is professional-grade protection at a civilian-accessible price."

Safe Application & UK Medical Advice

A tourniquet is a life-saving tool, but it must be used correctly. In line with UK clinical best practices:

  1. Identify the Bleed: Use a tourniquet only for life-threatening "catastrophic" bleeding from a limb that cannot be controlled by direct pressure.

  2. Positioning: Apply "high and tight" on the limb (above the wound, between the injury and the heart). Avoid placing directly over joints.

  3. Tighten Until It Stops: Turn the windlass rod until the bleeding completely stops and the distal pulse is absent. Note: This will be painful; this is necessary to save the limb.

  4. Lock & Time: Secure the rod in the clip and record the application time (HH:MM) on the white strap immediately using a permanent marker.

  5. Never Loosen: Once applied, a tourniquet must only be removed by a qualified medical professional in a hospital setting.

Important Notice: Training Required | While the CAT is designed for ease of use, we strongly recommend that all purchasers seek formal First Aid training. Effective application is a motor skill that should be practised before an emergency occurs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use this on myself?
A: Yes. The TrailMed CAT is specifically designed for one-handed self-application, making it essential for solo runners, hikers, and cyclists.

Q: Is it suitable for workplace first aid?
A: Absolutely. While not yet mandatory for all UK kits, they are strongly recommended for "high-risk" industries like construction or environments that could lead to major trauma such as cycling events.

Q: Is it re-usable?
A: No. A tourniquet is a single-use life-saving device. Once it has been used in an emergency or used extensively for training, the fibres and plastic may be compromised and the unit should be replaced.
